It sounds like maybe your card is trying to talk at one speed but your
switch is listening for another speed. What I mean, is one is sending at
10mb half duplex and the other is looking for a 10/100 full duplex
connection, or something of that sort. With some NICs, it is necessary to
hardcode in the level you want it to run at...the tool I use on my server
is called mii-tool.
