It's possible that by adding your DVD-R drive to your system, your
SATA hard drive is now known by a different device name. I don't know
anything about SATA, but could you change your configuration so that
your hard drive is sata0 and your DVD-R drive is sata1 in your BIOS,
even if it's by changing the cables around?

Of course, Red Hat often uses "LABEL=blahblah" as the root device, and
it seems like if you were using this system to specify your root
device, your system would still boot. If the above doesn't work,
could you send us your grub configuration? (i.e., when it asks you
which kernel you want to boot, I think you can press 'e' to
edit/display the grub configuration; send us what it says on that
screen.)
