Thanks for the advice everyone!

I've managed to get it done, and now using the AFS drive is much easier, Thanks!

Everyone here had good ideas. I'll just add what I do with my Linux boxes at home.

I made a launcher on my desktop (GNOME 2) called AFS home. It has this as a command:

nautilus ssh:// gsgatlin@remote.eos.ncsu.[redacted]/afs/unity.ncsu.edu/users/g/gsgatlin

Another host you could use is linux.pams.ncsu.edu if you are not in engineering. Just change the userID and the path.

If you use kde there is a way to do something similar. I'm not offhand familiar with the details but I recall it was possible.

Having a launcher just makes it always a double click away. I used an icon similar to the "Home directory" icon for my theme and distro. I actually have a few of these on my desktop to different "home directory" type places such as an account at SFD. ( freeshell.org )

With ssh filesystem, I made a directory off of root called /afs/ for the mountpoint (that I own) and run a command like:

sshfs gsgatlin@remote.eos.ncsu.[redacted]:/afs /afs

where linux.pams.ncsu.edu would work if you were not in engineering. I have sshfs installed along with fuse so which one I use depends on if I am using a GUI at that moment or if I am doing a lot of stuff in the shell. For the shell stuff I use sshfs.

Hope that helps.

Arrgg, can't make it.

Anyway, I have a question about something Linux based, and I was wondering if you guys would have any advice.

I am trying to attach or mount (or whatever you call it) my afs directory in my personal Linux partition.
I know how to ssh to the afs fine, and I can manipulate files there, but for moving quantities of files, or pictures, it would be especially nice
if I could access the afs root some how with the normal GUI file system.

Can anyone give me a rundown on how to do that?

Thanks!
