Hi Ioannis ,

I came across this company,

http://free-electrons.com/

which holds free practical 5 day workshops on embedded Linux for Universities. I am not sure if such a session has been held earlier, but I felt it would be a good idea what with the ARM based Raspberry Pi($25) launching in November.

I remember you telling us that the GSA had funds and was looking for events to arrange that students might be interested in. I think this qualifies well, as many of the MS Comp Engg students will be building future careers in this field and such hands on experience outside classes can prove beneficial.

Additionally, we also have the course on Embedded systems ECE 561 lined up in Spring 2012 and this workshop may prove a good precursor to it.

I didn't contact that the Company straight away as I thought it would be best if the GSA approached them.

Here is their contact page:

http://free-electrons.com/company/contact/

I've also CC'ed the Linux User Group at NCSU in case they are interested in helping coordinate the event.

Thanks,
Anand Bhatia.
