thanks for the reply..do you have any idea how one creates a boot.img file from a zImage file that is generated when we compile the kernel

I've had limited experience, and great success flashing U-Boot ( http://www.denx.de/wiki/U-Bootdoc/WebHome ) and loading images using it. Although I have no experience with that board in particular, U-Boot did a fantastic job loading from USB storage and SD cards alike.
