Ok about the compression I can handle data type and everything.  I was more interested in the history and use of tecuha because it seems like no one has heard about it.  That, and it might compress media better than any other now or at its time.

For the program, I did see the powerpc notes and I have not had much experience talking about this term.  I felt like it was just a type of processor or something.  But after some looking (in the links) I found OSs can handle running them and I saw Ubuntu on the list, but I don't know the specifics of what that means, like if I should be invoking it differently, emulating it, or the version of this powerpc program cannot be run etc.  I will check out the repositories soon, I thought this was a smaller program than that.  But I need to play a pretty unique file format .ftf .

And I've also toyed around with xmms2, maybe getting a GUI for it, and probably had trouble too like setting it up for many formats or just working fom what I can remember.

Hey Joshua,

These guys answered your questions, so I'm just going to offer some alternatives you can check out. For compression on linux I rely on tar... It can (de)compress tar, gz, and bzip2 files. It's very easy to use, and is available for every linux distro, just like gzip that Gary mentioned. As for Adplay, there are many programs that play audio files that you might want to check out. Personally, I like xmms2 because I can control it by having a "server" on my linux box that I can access using different clients and utilities.

It looks like maybe you are trying to run a powerpc executable? Is your system using a powerpc CPU? (Like an old Mac) If not that might be your problem.

It looks like there are "adplay" packages for ubuntu and fedora. If you are using either of these distros maybe that might be the easiest route to get this application working. I've never used it.

I never use 7zip unless I am copying some from the Windows world and I need to uncompress it. (very rare for me) I tend to use gzip for my compression needs.

I was using Linux and wanted some clarification.

I was recently discussing with some people about the compression utility
7zip (also gzip compresses, tar doesn't), and how it doesn't compress media
very well.  Well I had another one my mind that did, but I couldn't remember
it.  Well I do know and I believe it was called 'tecuha'.  When I first
found it was a while ago so it might be a bit dated, but it did some great
compression with images, video, and maybe even 3d objects.  If anyone had
any thoughts on this I'd like to hear them.
Slightly more Linux-based I had a problem.  I've been trying to run this
program which isn't a Windows exe.  So on Linux I finally got some info of
why but still don't have it running.  It's a player called AdPlay that is
apparently en ELF file that still refuses to run, even though I thought
Linux had support for that.  So I'll attach some links I found and the
information I got from some commands.  If anyone can help me run/emulate
this, or get me any farther thanks.
