The welcome back bash was a big success! We had lots and lots of
people come by our table, and not only crossword puzzle fillers, but
many people with interest in Linux and the LUG. Jasmine Adams is also
very interested to help get the word out about the LUG and will be
mentioning us in her next mass email.

We have a good number of things lined up for this semester.

Our next meeting will be at CrazyFire Mongolian Grill at 7:00 on Sept
9. If you need or can offer a ride from NCSU, meet outside on the
west side of Cox hall at 6:45. We are meeting to have dinner and
socialize with fellow LUG members. There will be several people
joining the LUG this semester, so this is the perfect chance for us to
get to know each other a little better.

On September 23, Austin Page will be giving a presentation titled
Virtualization - Closer to the "Cloud". This meeting is to explore the
current state of virtualization, with a stress on software
virtualization in Linux, and what it can do. If you are curious about
how to run Windows "In a Box", then this is the activity for you. Also
covered will be the idea of "Cloud Computing".

On October 7, Skip Grube will be be giving a presentation on Linux
gaming with wine.

Our schedule is a little off starting out this semester, so during
September, we will be meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, rather than
the usual 1st and 3rd. Since there are 5 weeks in September, we'll be
back on schedule in October.

I want to give credit to Daniel Marcus and his roommate for helping
out with the display for the welcome back bash. They did a great job
on very short notice. They will be helping us out with public
relations this semester while Stephen Roller is studying abroad in
Europe.

I'm excited for this upcoming year. Thanks to everyone for your
support in making it a success!

Ed
