Subject : LUG: Linux on Mac, SAS on Linux

Hello all,
First posting to the list, with three questions:

Having tried out a few live distros, I am considering getting serious
about migrating to Linux.
I have some older Apple hardware lying around unused (two early-ish
Imacs), which would be just the ticket for a first 'real use' test.
I know ubuntu would probably work out. Any other suggestion, opinions,
feelings?

Next, the only application I really cannot substitute when migrating is
SAS. I am well aware of other great statistics apps on Linux, chiefly R,
but migrating to R is not a possibility for me yet. So: SAS makes it
clear that SAS for Linux has been designed with Red Hat on Intel in
mind, and that all bets are off if it is installed on another
distribution. What are the NCSU Linux users thoughts on this?

Thank you
