Greetings,
On December 3 from 12-8PM there will be a computer/network security
competition held on the NC State campus. NCSU participants will form a
team that will be part of a large competition hosted by UC Santa
Barbara. Teams will be from schools around the world including Germany,
Italy, Austria and the US (including military academies).
We will be given a VMware image of a Linux distro (probably based on a
previous Red Hat release). Basically, our task will be to defend the
network services provided by our image and attack those provided by
other teams. No denial of service is allowed, as the competition only
lasts 8 hours.
The NCSU team can have a max of 10 people and currently we have about 8.
I would like to solicit requests from LUG and NAG members to join the
team, because many of you are highly qualified. The only official
requirement for participation is that you are an NCSU student (grad or
undergrad). However, I would expect that you are very familiar with
Linux and have some prior experience with either writing buffer
overflows or hardening Linux.
Since the defenses can be adequately handled by only two or three
people, should I get more requests than available spots, I will give
preference to those with offense experience (buffer overflows, etc.).
Thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Chris
