Minimal doesn't. Minimal has you download the stage tarball and the
tree. I think there are more advantages to downloading the tree during
the install than using an older tree from install media.

The portage tree only has the list of packages, when you install
something it downloads it then.

You'll want to at least look over the documentation before starting to
install Gentoo. It isn't as simple as just installing Gentoo and then
installing xfce, you first have to get it to boot and then install X.
