Wow, I didn't think anybody else used openSuse!

Try installing Wicd- it's an alterantive to NetworkManager that some have found to be more reliable (if a little more complex), but it should be much easier than terminal commands, especially of you connect to many WPA networks.

Hi,
Finally I found a work around for connecting to ncsu wireless networks. I faced the same problem with Opensuse 11.2. A small script did the trick! ;)

iwlist eth1 scan
iwconfig eth1 essid ncsu
dhcpcd eth1.

Replace 'eth1' with your wifi device. If it doesn't work, try killing dhcpcd and execute it once again. Because the console commands work, I am guessing the problem is with knetworkmanager ?!(I use kde)

I have Broadcom STA wireless driver installed. I don't believe the problem is with the driver because the same driver is used in both 9.04 and 9.10. Only with 9.10, I am facing this problem.

Which driver are you using? I have a Dell D830 with a Broadcom chipset, and it works great with the b43 driver. I've personally always had trouble with the FOSS driver for Broadcom. I don't recall which one was with 9.10 by default, but I'm pretty sure I had to use wl-cutter.

I own dell inspiron model, broadcom chipset. I upgraded from 9.04 -> 9.10 hence I did not face the driver problem. When I was using 9.04, there was no problem connecting to our ncsu network, but 9.10 just refuses to connect! dunno why. Rather to rephrase the problem, it does not connect to unsecured network.

What wireless chipset do you have?  Or rather, what kind of laptop are you using?  My older Thinkpad T60 doesn't seem to work with 9.10 because of its Atheros chipset.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix is now on the mirror, as are the server disk, alternate installs, and Xubuntu. I'm preparing to download the Kubuntu Netbook Remix now.

It appears that there's no netbook remix on the mirror. But thanks anyway for such a good thing.

I'll be at the installfest. I myself am going to install ubuntu 9.10 brand new and, hope I can help some others to install that.

Yes- we will have a LAN-local mirror at the installfest (hint: come to our installfest). This mirror will probably go offline when I leave for the installfest, because the data is on Sha`Bren's external HDD.

Thanks Brian!

As a side note, will the repository mirror be available for the install-fest?

To help with today's release of Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala, I'm providing a temporary on-campus mirror of the CD images and repository. You can download the images at http://spiffybox.k.vu . That page also provides a sources.list file with my repo configured.

This mirror will stay up until Saturday morning.
