I agree, if you are compiling it yourself, try using pdflatex.

Or maybe convert the pdfs to image files or OpenOffice document?

I think it might be an evince problem.

I don't have time at the moment to try them, but perhaps another will
work.

Any other thoughts, after reading this new information?

Some reason you're not using pdflatex?
