Hi Quentin,
Will this meeting be recorded?

Hi LUG,

For this Tuesday's meeting we'll be hosting Barry Peddycord III,
ex-President-of-the-LUG (EXPOTLUG) and current employee of Cumulus Networks,
who will be giving a talk on OpenStack. For those of you not familiar,
OpenStack is a free software cloud computing platform originally
co-developed
by NASA and Rackspace that sees extremely widespread use across the
datacenter
computing space. It is licensed under Apache. I personally am looking
forward
to this talk because that's as much information as I can give you :-)

As usual we'll be meeting in EB2 3001 @ 7:00 P.M.

Anyone desiring Linux / BSD / general computing help, or willing to help
others, is welcome to stick around after the meeting!

Oh, and there may be pizza ^_^

See you all Tuesday.

Hi LUG,

Some announcements for this week.

First off, we have been working with NCSU IT on DNS changes for char and
short. Most of these took effect Thursday. User facing changes for now:

* If you have a shell account on short and you use one if its domains
instead of its IPv4 to connect, you will encounter a SSH error when
you next try to connect; follow the instructions in that warning to
resolve it and you should be set.
* ZNC is now located at char.csc.ncsu.edu:1337

There will be a few more changes once the remaining records are in place.

Last week's OpenStack talk was great; thank you Barry Peddycord for
coming out and giving that.

Finally we have a forum thread up with a poll on where we would like to
meet to commiserate over food this week:
https://forum.lug.ncsu.edu/t/tuesday-2-14-social-dinner/72/1

Make sure to vote on that! I'm leaning towards Golden Dragon myself but
as always popular vote rules!

Best,

Hi LUG,

To follow up on Saturday's announcement, the poll results for tonight's
meetup are in:

* 75% for Golden Dragon

* 25% for I <3 NY PIZZA

It appears popular favor has sided with me again! That said I am glad to
see a dissenting minority -- worldview diversity is important! Thus we
will be meeting at Golden Dragon on Hillsborough St. tonight at 7:00p.m.
for some delicious American Chinese.

That said, it occurred to me that the majority of places we go are
primarily meat-based; if you are a vegetarian and would like to see us
eat at some primarily vegetarian places once in a while, please unicast
me an email and let me know you exist.

Best,
Quentin

Hi LUG,

Just a few announcements this time around:

* All domains changes mentioned last week have taken effect, so we
should be all set to continue building out our online presence. Hooray
and thanks to Comtech + CSC IT for making that happen.
* I met with a few officers from NC State's chapter of the Association
for Computing Machinery (ACM) on Thursday. Looks like there's quite a
bit of shared interest between our organizations and plenty of room for
collaboration! In that spirit, we are in the planning stages for a joint
event that will tentatively be taking place in March, so stay tuned for
that.
* As a reminder, our public and members-only forums are located at
https://forum.lug.ncsu.edu/. That Discourse instance and pertinent DNS
records have been fully migrated/pointed to Char; I would like to thank
Michael Marley for making that happen (along with the majority of the
migration-related work). Round of applause :-)

Finally, the topic of the meeting this Tuesday: in light of the
completion of the infrastructure changes we began last semester, and
since I have no speakers scheduled for Tuesday, we will make it a Hack
Day. For those not familiar, Hack Days are informal meetings where
attendees work on LUG projects, personal projects, get help with *nix's,
relax and commiserate. I personally will be bootstrapping
https://opensource.ncsu.edu/, and anyone who's interested in working on
that is invited to join. It will be located on our public GitHub at
https://github.com/ncsulug.

See you folks Tuesday!

I won't be able to make it: have quite a bit of work due before break that
I need to catch up on.

Hope you all have a great time!
