Hello everyone!
Just a reminder to check the LUG website frequently: the most recent
post (http://lug.ncsu.edu/2016/fall-plans) has information about
*tomorrow's meeting* as well more general announcements.
Have a great labor day, and we'll see you all tomorrow!

Hi LUG,
Some updates:
- As per Neill's announcement, tomorrow we'll be having our first hack
day to work on organizing char and short and get some brainstorming for
what we want to do with opensource.ncsu.edu. Looking forward to this!
- I have been in communication with Facebook and we're working on
scheduling 9/14 at 7:00 as the date and time for their Prod. Eng. team to
host an event, hopefully with food :-)
- I'm working on putting together a Google Calendar for the group, which
segues into the next point:
I propose setting up a Google Group on our NCSU Google Apps instance.
Someone suggested it to me recently, I looked into it, and I think it would
give us a much better way to manage group communications, maintain a
roster, a shared calendar, manage emails and the mailing list, and other
goodies. NCSU's Majordomo instance, to my understanding, is being phased
out in favor of GApps for email communication internally, and I think this
is a good path for us as well.
If there are any suggestions or concerns I'd love to hear them. If anyone
has a better idea for a collaboration tool, I think some characteristics
we're looking for are:
- Long lived -- will exist independently of the members of the group and
across infrastructure changes
- Integrates email -- people shouldn't have to make an account to gain
access, so we can keep in touch with LUG affiliates who may not be NCSU
students or faculty
- Easy way to manage members, preferably tied to @ncsu.edu accounts
I thought about some self-hosted project management tools, which we could
absolutely host on one of our servers, as well as hosted ones like Slack
(which the CSEC club here uses), but I think Google Groups strikes the best
balance. In any case I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Best,

Quentin, I granted you admin access to the LUG event calendar we used on
the old website. I didn't realize future SCs weren't passing it on.
Feel free to use something else if you consider it appropriate.

Hi LUG,
As part of cleaning up club resources and updating documents and such, I
cleaned out the club roster. This probably resulted in many of you no
longer existing as members of the club, so if you want to be listed in the
roster as a member, please check that you exist here:
https://getinvolved.ncsu.edu/organization/ncsulug/roster
I know I deleted at least one person who recently requested membership. If
you're not listed here, but *you come to meetings* and would like to be
present on the official roster, please respond to this email saying so.
*If I have not seen you at a meeting and you request membership, your
membership will be denied.* I will send you an email saying as much. This
is to avoid having 30 people who never come to meetings listed as members,
which was the case up until 10 minutes ago. As you will may recall, I asked
for a list of members when re-registering the club. However, since I have
not seen the majority of those people show up at a meeting, I will not be
adding those folks.
We try to avoid using the Get Involved web app as much as possible, because
it's terrible. But since we are required to use it to manage records with
the University, I will continue to use it for the membership roster and
will add a link to the website.
Also note that if you are presently a member, unless you are me or Antonius
Iskander, your membership status is set to "hidden". If you would like to
show up on the public list of members, please set your membership status to
public.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend :-)
Best,
