Hi everyone,

Every semester I get a few emails from users who wish to be unsubscribed
from the mailing list. If you visit http://lug.ncsu.edu/ and click "mailing
list", you will land on this page:

http://lists.ncsu.edu/cgi-bin/mj_wwwusr?user=&passw=&func=info&list=lug

<http://lists.ncsu.edu/cgi-bin/mj_wwwusr?user=&passw=&func=info&list=lug>
where you can click "unsubscribe or change settings" in order to
unsubscribe yourself from the list.

Also worthy of note is that this same procedure works for any mailing list
managed by the University's instance of Majordomo.

Happy Sunday!

Hey everyone!

The location for tomorrow's social meeting has been decided: We will have
dinner at Freshii on Hillsborough St across from Winston Hall.

Plan on meeting up on location at *7pm*.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Good afternoon, LUGgers (LUGgites? pLUGgers?),

I have two quick announcements for you!

*0. Technical talk on Init Systems: Tuesday Feb. 16th*

Same time, same place: 7-8pm, EBII room 3001. We'll be discussing how Linux
systems start up from a minimally-functional box to a full-fledged
operating system environment. The key is in init systems: how they are
written, how they are called, and most importantly *how you can bend them
to your desires*.

Hope to see you all there!

*1. Short re-imaging*

Your faithful and honorable president Quentin will be wiping our server
(short) to a clean state this afternoon and evening, which means there will
be a considerable period of downtime. The website, among other services,
will be inaccessible. Furthermore, *if you did not request to keep your
account, it will be removed*!

No worries, though: this Tuesday we will discuss signing up for accounts
and taking advantage of LUG's hardware benefits. Another good reason to
come!

That's all for now. Hop on to IRC (#ncsulug) if you have any questions.
Have a great weekend!

*TL;DR: Init System talk on Tuesday. LUG server will be down, so IRC is
your only hope. *

Hi LUG,

It is with relief that I announce that short, one of our two servers, has
been wiped and reimaged with Ubuntu Server 15.10, the latest edition. All
existing users that requested access have had their users recreated and
home directories restored. If you are among them you will receive an email
shortly with your temporary password, which you must change upon first
login.
As of yet, ZNC is the only service I have restored. The website will take a
bit of effort to configure for its new environment, so you can look for
that later in the week.

A few notes:

- If you use ZNC and made use of the *awaynick* module, you may want to
review your configuration, as this module has been deprecated and no longer
exists in latest ZNC.
- Ubuntu 15.10 is SystemD-based. Please let me know if you relied on
SysV-based services that you would like to be restored.
- Quotas have not yet been configured, so please be courteous : )

Your patience during this transition is appreciated.

Thanks for flying with us!
