Hello, everyone!

FOSS Fair registration is closed, but it's not too late to attend -
just show up on Saturday. We'd still appreciate an RSVP though, at
http://go.ncsu.edu/fossfair2015. But, if you're interested in being a
staff member at FOSS Fair, staff training is tonight!

When: Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at 7:00 PM
Where: Engineering Building II room 1227

FOSS Fair staff are responsible for:

* Setting up A/V equipment for speakers
* Keeping sessions on time
* Tracking changes to the schedule
* Answering participants' questions
* Dealing with Code of Conduct violations or any other problems

The training will cover:

* FOSS Fair scheduling procedures
* Code of Conduct and incident handling procedures
* Using the A/V equipment (with demos from a ClassTech staffer)
* Staff communication (via an SMS group)

If you just want to help with setup or cleanup, you don't need to
attend the training - just show up to the Fair on Saturday, February 7
(at 7:30 AM for setup, and at the normal time of 8:30 AM for everyone
else).

Thanks,
Matthew Frazier

Hello world, This weeks meeting/dinner is a bit odd but I do believe that
anyone and everyone, FOSS bootcamp or not, can be of joining us for fun
times at Ruckus Pizza at 7pm. So rush on over and get ready for the best
calzone store located beside a Walgreens in Mission Valley. Helpfully,

Topic: Un-Meeting
When: Thursday, 12th February 2015, 6.45pm (pizza at 7pm)
Where: NC State Engineering Building 2 Room TBA, Centennial Campus
Parking: The parking decks and Oval Drive street parking are free after 5pm

This is where you get to join in and share your passion or skills.
Please consider coming down to the front of the lecture theater and
sharing your knowledge along with other like minded people. The idea
is to have a small panel of people for each talk, and not just a
single presenter. If you want to show pictures or slides, hosting them
online is a good idea.

This format will be a little different this week, and so we are going
to start a little earlier than usual at 6:45pm.

Proposed Topics:
==============
1. Useful Vim Plugins and How To Manage Them
There are a few really good Vim plugins that make some common tasks a
lot easier, if not downright enjoyable. I'll demonstrate a couple of
them, and show one that makes managing vim plugins dead simple. Then
share your favorites!

2. MythTV
"Linux in your living room": Do you run MythTV ? Tell us what frontend
hardware you have ? Want to share a cool add-on or remote control ?

3. Github Flow
Using pull requests, web hooks, and code review to avoid breaking the build

4. Linux File/Directory Permissions and Filesystem Concepts
Per newcomer request, let's go through all the permission settings on
files and directories, and what they all mean. If we have time in the
slot, we can also explore some fundamental filesystem concepts
(inodes, superblocks, etc).

deployments.

Hello Bill, or anyone else that would know,

I have a small question about calendar invites in case anyone knows the
answer:

I think Meetup.com has a useful feature allowing you to add the meeting
date, time, and information into your Google or other calendar software
relatively without much effort. This can either be done on the main
meeting page by clicking "Export" and then clicking on any of the links
that appear, or near the top an email which is probably done by including
some sort metadata or calendar file attachment in the email that Gmail
detects.

My question is, do these emails have this capability that I can use or
set-up, or could it be added to work simply by clicking a button every time?

Hello, LUGgers!

In our next meeting, Barry Peddycord III (isharacomix) will hold a
workshop on getting a virtual private server running on Digital Ocean.
After creating the server, you'll learn how to do fun Linux stuff like
setting up a reverse proxy for hosting a personal wiki, setting up a
personal IRC bouncer using ZNC, hosting your own private Git
repositories, and other topics as requested by the audience.

Where: Engineering Building II, room 1227
When: Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 7:00 PM

Before coming to the meeting, please visit
http://isharacomix.org/speaking/foss-fair-2015/ and follow the
instructions for getting your account started - if you are a student,
you can create an account for free without providing a credit card by
using the Github explorer's pack. This will maximize the amount of
time we have in the workshop for doing more interesting things!

(Also, sorry for announcing this so late - we were having some trouble
with the mailing list.)

Thanks,
Matthew Frazier

Hello Organizers and everyone,

Are we still meeting today, in person or virtually?
The snow is coming down outside and at least one person that would like to
come is working from home. :)
