Message-ID: <1416359371.17513.7@smtp.gmail.[redacted]>
Hello, LUGgers,
Tonight's meeting opens the LUG election season! The LUG has four
officers, which we must fill with current students on a
semester-by-semester basis. Our elections will happen at Movie Night on
December 2, at 7 PM -- location and movie still to be determined. The
following people were nominated at the meeting:
Nominated for President:
- Matthew Frazier (leafstorm)
Nominated for Vice President:
- Caitlin Chestna (countingstars25)
- Matthew Frazier (leafstorm)
Nominated for PR Officer:
- Stephen Waddell (Armillary)
Nominated for Treasurer:
- Daniel Glassey (SpherRhal)
- Ian Kilgore (ik)
Additional nominations will be accepted by email to the mailing list -
lug@lists.ncsu.[redacted] - until December 1 at 7 PM. You can nominate
yourself or others, and you are also allowed to un-nominate yourself.
Only current students of NC State may be nominated - so, not Alex Ray,
and not LOUDBOT.
Elections are run according to the LUG Constitution, which you can read
at
https://github.com/ncsulug/ncsulug-constitution/blob/master/constitution.md.
Thanks,
Matthew Frazier

Hello, LUGgers!
Apologies for the late announcement. Tonight, we're having dinner at

"a good place."

they shouldn't mind if you just hang out with us and maybe have a

Hello, LUGgers!
Welcome back from break! Next week, we'll have our traditional
first-week-of-the-semester planning meeting, where we'll introduce
ourselves and plan out what technical topics we're going to discuss.
Feel free to pass news of this meeting on to anyone you think might be
interested.
When: Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 7:00 PM
Where: Engineering Building II, room 3001
3001 is on the bridge that connects the two halves of EB II - find a
stairwell, go all the way up to the 3rd floor, and then walk towards
the center.
Before the meeting, I'd appreciate if someone enrolled in PY 205 or PY
208 could send me the exam schedules for those classes - I'd like to
see if we can schedule around the physics exams, to avoid excluding
physics students from our technical sessions.
Also, tonight is TriPython's Raleigh Project Night, right here on
Centennial Campus. I'll probably take advantage of the time to prepare
marketing materials for the upcoming FOSS Fair - if you're interested
in making FOSS Fair happen, you can drop by too. You can also just
show up if you have something vaguely Python-related to work on.
When: Tuesday, January 6, 2015, 6:00 PM-9:00 PM
Where: WebAssign (on Centennial, at the corner of Varsity and Main Campus)

Hello, campus FOSS community!
I am proud to announce that we have a date, time, location, and Web
site for this year's Free and Open Source Software Fair! FOSS Fair is
an annual "unconference" where NC State students, faculty, staff,
alumni, and affiliates can present on and talk about anything and
everything related to Free and Open Source Software.
When: Saturday, February 7, 2015
Where: Engineering Building II
Web: http://go.ncsu.edu/fossfair2015
Cost: Free!
8:30 AM: Coffee and bagels
9:00 AM: Opening session
10:00 AM: Presentations begin!
We're still tying together the details on sponsorship and
registration. In the meantime, you can help prepare for FOSS Fair by:
* Planning to attend! We'll send out the email with the RSVP within
the next couple of weeks.
* Promoting the Fair! If you know any people or mailing lists who
would be interested in FOSS Fair, feel free to pass along this email
-- and we'll have posters and the like ready to post soon!
* Proposing sessions! All sessions at FOSS Fair are given by ordinary
attendees -- if you have something you want to talk about, no need to
be an expert, just add it to the Web site! Sessions can also be
discussions, workshops, sprints, or anything else you can think of.
(And if you don't think your session needs a full hour, we'll have
half-hour sessions this Fair.)
* Suggesting sessions! If there's something you'd like to know more
about, you can add it to the "Suggestions" list on the Web site!
Someone else might see it and offer to have a session about it.
* Volunteering to help! If you'd like to be trained as a Fair staff
member to keep sessions running smoothly and help participants resolve
any issues that crop up, contact the LUG Steering Committee at
linux-users-group@ncsu.[redacted] -- we haven't picked a time for staff
training yet, so let us know what works best for you. Volunteer signup
for stuff like setup and teardown will be posted later.
Last year's FOSS Fair was a blast, and we're hoping this one will be
even better. We hope to see you there!
Thanks,
Matthew Frazier
