Colleagues:

Please save the date for THATCamp <http://dk2014.thatcamp.org/> on Friday,
March 28 -- and invite your friends to do the same!

THATCamp Research Triangle Park (RTP): Digital Knowledge is an opportunity
to learn and play at the intersections of technology, humanities, social
sciences, arts, and libraries. To be held on Friday, March 28 at North
Carolina State University's Hunt Library<https://www.lib.ncsu.edu/huntlibrary>,
THATCamp invites 75 participants to collaboratively plan this one-day
"unconference." THATCamp is free, informal, and open to faculty, grad
students, university staff and members of the public. A light breakfast and
lunch will be served. No specific technical skills are required.

Participants are welcomed to propose sessions that relate to digital
scholarship and pedagogy or any other topic they'd like to explore with
fellow attendees. Sessions typically enable participants to develop new
skill sets, think through ideas in a cooperative setting, and workshop
current and future projects. (See the
instructions<http://dk2014.thatcamp.org/propose/>on what sorts of
sessions you might propose in advance or on the spot.)

This year, THATCamp also invites attendees to use the Hunt Library's
high-tech spaces including the Teaching and Visualization
Lab<http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/spaces/teaching-and-visualization-lab>,
the Game Lab <http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/spaces/game-lab>, and the Creativity
Studio <http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/spaces/creativity-studio>. Staff will be on
hand to assist with running and configuring these spaces. In addition to
sessions that participants propose in advance or on the spot, THATCamp will
offer hands-on workshops <http://dk2014.thatcamp.org/schedule/> led by
librarians and faculty on the Arduino microprocessor, as part of NC State's
parallel celebration of the worldwide Arduino Day 2014<http://day.arduino.cc/>.

Please note: participation is limited to 75 people. To attend, please register
<http://dk2014.thatcamp.org/register/>by March 26. To learn more, visit our
website, http://dk2014.thatcamp.org/, and follow us on Twitter at
@THATCampRTP <https://twitter.com/thatcamprtp>.

I seriously can not believe I am allowed to announce this, but Ian "ik"
Kilgore, the incredible, is gracing us with a talk! Make sure to mark this
legendary date on your calendars!

When: March, 18, Tuesday, 2014
Where: Engineering Building II, 3220

>From the speaker: 'I will cover the theory, design, and implementation of a
hardware "true" random number generator. The talk will touch on
statistics/philosophy of randomness, the underlying physics of the random
process, and the hardware iteration from prototype perfboard hack through
the final, integrated "product". Will also be some discussion of
drivers/interface for the Linux host, and we may briefly cover the Linux
entropy subsystem. According to real live people who I have not paid to say
favourable things: it should be "mathy, relevant, and fun" and "the
presenter is smart and handsome and frequently-correct"'
Be sure to see this truly unique talk! You really don't want to miss it!

Thanks Ian! Here's a general reminder:

Ian "ik" Kilgore (the "i" stands for "incredible") will give his talk on
"theory, design, and implementation of a hardware "true" random number
generator" TODAY at 7pm in EB 3, 2220! (Note: The first e-mail had building
number and the first number of the room mixed up, sorry for that!) The room
is in EB3. Enter through the main entrance, take the corridor on the right
and the room will be on your right just before the corner of the corridor.

See you all there!
