Hi all!
Just a quick note that Movie Night and Elections are still happening
tomorrow at 7 PM, but we will be meeting in Engineering Building 1, room
1010!
If you're free tomorrow, we hope you'll join us! Travelling Salesman is
an excellent movie - especially if you're up on your CS theory!
Thanks,
Barry Peddycord III

Hello, LUGgers!
We had a lot of fun watching/making fun of Travelling Salesman tonight,
but more importantly, we elected the next slate of officers for the LUG!
In an unexpected turn of events, Barry chose not to run for re-election
as President or VP. He's definitely remaining active in the LUG, but
with all the other administrative responsibilities he has accumulated in
groups like TriLUG, the CSC GSA, STARS, and the IEEE, he wanted to step
back and let others have a turn at the Presidency. So, our new officers are:
President: Matthew Frazier (leafstorm)
Vice President: Caitlin Chestna (countingstars25)
Treasurer: Barry Peddycord III (IsharaComix)
PR Officer: Markus Eger (Yawgmoth)
While I was definitely not expecting this, I am grateful for the
opportunity to serve as LUG President, and I look forward to leading the
LUG through another semester as we continue to meet new people and
develop new traditions.
Our existing committee chairs were re-instated, and a motion was made to
appoint Brian Cottingham (spiffytech) chairman of the newly formed
Alumni Committee. Assuming he accepts, the non-officer members of the
Steering Committee are now:
Brian Cottingham (spiffytech, Chairman-Elect of the Alumni Committee)
Stephen Bryant (Sha`Bren, Chairman of the Zombie Defense Committee)
Ian Kilgore (ik, Captain of Switzerland)
This was the last LUG meeting of the semester. We'll probably have
dinner somewhere next Tuesday, but as far as actual meetings go, our
Semester Planning Meeting for Spring will be on Tuesday, January 7 (time
and location to be announced). We hope to see you there!

Hello,
We will be moving the TriLUG Server (pilot) to a new hosting provider
on Thursday 5th December 2013. This means the mailing lists, website,
shell accounts, etc will be unavailable during the transition. We
anticipate a 4 hour outage window from 10:30am and 2.30pm.

Subject: looking for undergrad coder
I met with Paul Fackler from Agriculture and Resource Economics earlier
this week. He is working on an interesting approach to improving the
efficiency of solving MDP models, and is looking to hire an undergrad to
help write some code. I told him I would help with some targeted
recruiting. In particular, he needs someone familiar with C and MATLAB
who is capable of writing *efficient* algorithms.
Here's a link to the job posting: https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings/29854
Is there anyone that comes to mind that might be appropriate to send his
way?
Thanks!

Subject: FOSS Fair 2014: It's Happening
Message-ID: <52A9EFD2.2020004@ncsu.[redacted]>
Hello, campus open source community!
It's a bit later in the year than this news normally goes out, but we do
plan to hold another NC State FOSS Fair in 2014! Jack Neely, our
organizer for the past few years, has stepped down from his position at
OIT, but the Linux Users Group at NC State has volunteered to keep it
running in his absence.
Unfortunately, we just found out about his departure and decided to take
over FOSS Fair yesterday night. So, we don't have solid details on date,
time, location, or sponsorship yet. We're going to target "Saturday,
February 15th, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in Engineering Building II, sponsored
by Red Hat," as with previous years, but that's subject to change
depending on what we can work out.
If you enjoy FOSS Fair (or free and open source software in general) and
want to help out, we will need volunteers to plan the Fair, set up, tear
down, and most importantly, get the word out! If you're interested in
helping out, email the LUG Steering Committee <lug-sc@lists.ncsu.[redacted]>.
In the meantime, mark your calendars, and start thinking of what you
want to hear about or speak about at this year's FOSS Fair! We're going
to set a date, time, and location as soon as we can, so keep an eye out
for future details!
Thanks,
Matthew Frazier
