Because a few regular attendees (including the president) were out of
town, it took a while to select a place for dinner, and for that we
apologize. We have decided on the Village Deli & Grill - it's
somewhere new to the LUG, but it has good reviews and a lot of

=== Abstract ===
Cryptography has been in the news a lot lately. We'll start with a
quick overview of some of the major recent headlines, specifically
about the NSA's attempts to circumvent and break encryption and what
experts are recommending to stay as secure as possible online. This
will be followed with a high-level overview of cryptography. We'll
look at where it's been made easy to use, and were it's not so easy.
Then we will dig into the details of using GPG from the command line,
to encrypt documents and to verify software packages.

Sean Alexandre is a Senior Software Developer at SAS Institute, where
he's been working on different front-end applications for the past 12

Hello, LUGgers!
By now, you've probably heard us talking about Git a lot. It's the
most popular version control system in the open source community right
now, and it provides you with a great way to organize and share you
work. But, it can also be very difficult to approach. So, at our next
LUG meeting, Barry "IsharaComix" Peddycord III (our president) will
deliver a brief introduction to Git and GitHub!
When: Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 7:00 PM
Where: Engineering Building II room 1228 (same as last time)
In addition, as the second-to-last regular meeting of the semester,
this is the week we are constitutionally obligated to hold officer
nominations. The LUG has four officers -- President, Vice President,
PR Officer, and Treasurer -- and we expect vacancies in the latter two
positions this year. (If you'd like more details on what these
positions entail, read our Constitution [1] and/or contact me via
email or IRC.)
Nominations will be accepted in person at the Git meeting, and will be
accepted by email to the LUG mailing list until Tuesday, November 19,
at 7:00 PM. (They will be posted on the wiki page for the election [2]
as they arrive.) Voting will happen two weeks after that at our
biannual LUG Movie Night!
When: Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 7:00 PM
Where: Engineering Building II room 3001 (the bridge)
Movie: Travelling Salesman [3] (most likely)
Finally, mark your calendars for our second hack day of the semester,
on Saturday, November 23! We haven't finalized the room and time with
Registration & Records yet, but it will probably be from 12:00 PM to
8:00 PM in Mann 301, like the last one.

Hi,
Any chance this presentation could be recorded,
like some similar ones are for Tri-lug? I *might*
be able to get some traction for another very
close-by venue, that has recording capabilities,
IFF it is availble at that time, Barry agreed
& he was ready for it. (I know a Realm Linux
course was done there that made it successfully
to Youtube for others to see.)

First off, I'd just like to remind everyone that Barry will present on
using Git and GitHub for collaboration tonight. Git and GitHub have
become increasingly important to the open source community, so this
will be an especially great talk to attend if you're new to open
source.

Where: Engineering Building II room 1228 (same as last time)
We'll also collect nominations for our officer elections at the
meeting tonight - but if you can't make it tonight, nominations can be
submitted via email to the mailing list until next Tuesday.

day where we all hang out and work on projects in the same room. We
