This was actually something I was thinking about pitching to Jack Neely and the other NCSU staff. If we could maybe get a location in EB2 or Hunt I think it would work out great, other than the wireless.

Hey Barry,

The joint meeting plan sounds really good. It would be great to have TriLUG meetings/sessions on NCSU campus because that would be convenient to attend (on campus) and will also increase participation for both TriLUG/NCSULUG.

Hai Lugz:

I know it's a little early to be thinking about this, but I wanted to
get everyone thinking about which days we should be meeting in the
Fall semester. We've been meeting every Tuesday for as long as I can
remember, and we shifted it to Mondays this Spring to deal with my
night classes (when you're the president, you get to be selfish like
that!).

While I don't want to make a habit of moving our meeting nights
around, one thing I wanted to pitch was the idea of a Thursday meeting
night for the primary reason of improving NCSULUG/TriLUG relations.
With TriLUG moving out of Red Hat soon, there's a need for a new
venue, and it would be super-awesome to establish a partnership where
the usual TriLUG meeting can serve as a joint NCSULUG/TriLUG meeting,
and we could host it at NCSU.

This could seriously improve the opportunities for us to find speakers
for our own events, and improve networking opportunities for our
student members. In my two years of religiously attending TriLUG
talks, I've only been disappointed maybe twice, and I feel as though
there is a lot of potential for cross-pollination if this grows into a
healthy relationship. That being said, I recognize that some folks
might be opposed to this, which is why I'm bringing it up for discussion.

I know using the discussion list for actually discussing things is
borderline heresy, but I'd like to get folks' opinion on the idea.

Thoughts?

In my experience, the wireless usually works pretty well in EB2 but
almost always doesn't work at all in Hunt. The other day I was there
for about two hours and I was never able to establish a connection at all.

The wireless in EB2 works ok, sometimes, depending on where you use it. It is a known issue with comtech, when they built the 802.11n system they ran out of funding before they had all the antennas in place.

Ideally we won't have to worry about getting any "special" rooms. The
plan is to get a classroom reserved through Registration and Records,
same as any other club. I can't imagine a place in Hunt that we'd be
able to get on a weekly basis that's big enough for our own group, let
alone TriLUG.

So far, the best luck we've had has been in EB1 1007, and I'll be
happy with any room in EB1, 2, or 3. Either way, I can't get a room
through R&R until the second week of the fall semester.

Would EB1 1007 be big enough to fit TriLUG? I have never been to a
TriLUG meeting before...
