Barry,
Sorry, I will not be making it. My family is having a friend over tomorrow
and we are all rushing around trying to get the house in order before
hand... It is up on the OHM calendar though.

Topic: OpenShift
Presenter: Wesley Hearn
When: Thursday, July 12, 7pm
Where: Red Hat HQ, NCSU Centennial Campus, 1801 Varsity Dr, Raleigh, NC

Wesley Hearn will be presenting OpenShift, a cloud computing platform
as a service product from Red Hat.

This meeting is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina,
the states largest health insurance company, providing service to
over 3.5 million North Carolinians. BCBSNC will have a representative
at the meeting to discuss insurance plans that they offer,
specifically for the self-employed.

Synopsis:
Wesley Hearn will be going over what Cloud computing is and where
OpenShift is inside the Cloud stack. After everyone has a grasp on
Cloud computing, he will go over how OpenShift differs from OpenShift
Origin. Then it is on to the semi-fun stuff, the different components
of OpenShift Origin and how they work together. Once Wesley has gone
over all of this, he will show you how to set up and deploy a local
install(he will be doing it in KVM) so you can develop and test your
application before you push it to OpenShift.

Hello, LUGgers!

As the unofficial summer project of the LUG, I have begun development on a new LUG Website to be hosted on Short! The source code is available here [1]. I also have a list of apps that the site will eventually incorporate here [2]. Currently, the plan is to include:

- Pages of useful information
- A blog for posting official LUG news
- A planet that aggregates all the personal blogs of LUG members
- LUG member profiles
- Live IRC log like the one currently on http://lug.fltt.us/
- A forum that's somewhere between an actual forum and Hacker News (i.e. discussing links and/or current eventsLUG events and official business would remain on the mailing list)
- A text-based BBS-style interface

Right now, I have the most basic skeleton of the siteI plan to log some more hours on it this Saturday. But before I continue developing, I would like to ask you all some questions that have shown up in IRC discussions about the site.

- Who has a blog that they actually post on? (Because right now IsharaComix would completely flood the planet)

- What information should go on people's member profiles? (Most of it will be optional.)

- Should we have a Hacker News/Reddit-style forum, or a wiki? Or both?

- What's the division between what should go on the on-site forum and what should go on the mailing list? To what degree should they be integrated?

- Right now, the footer says that the site's content is licensed as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike. Do you think we need to add a Noncommercial clause to it as well?

- Can anyone make us a better logo? (Maybe Tux wearing a hat that looks like Mr. Wuf?)

If you have any opinion on these matters, any other suggestions for the site, or really anything to say about it, please reply. And if you know Django, feel free to fork the repository and contribute.

I post at http://sleepingcyb.org/ pretty regularly, but it's a
multiple-contributor blog (of which I am the Spelling Czar). I can provide
a jdpage-only feed though if you prefer.

- What information should go on people's member profiles? (Most of it will

Something like this:

<small square image, 64x64 px or something>
<irc handle, mandatory> (<real name, optional>) - <official/unofficial
position in LUG, mandatory for official positions>
<a user-selected field, like "Super powers", "Interests", "Class" (as in
D&D), "Favourite pokemon", etc.>
Website: <optional>
Email: <optional>

- Should we have a Hacker News/Reddit-style forum, or a wiki? Or both?
>
Either a wiki (abused as a forum, a la wiki.tcl.tk), or an actual forum.
I'd prefer a wiki. No HN/Reddit thing -- upvotes/downvotes are silly for a
group this small.

- What's the division between what should go on the on-site forum and what

Wiki is good for event organization, projects, information, discussion,
etc. Mailing list is good for questions, announcements, general discussion,
etc. The mailing list should be archived online if it isn't already.

- Right now, the footer says that the site's content is licensed as
> Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike. Do you think we need to add a

Yes. That means that people have to ask permish to use our logo and copy to
promote any moneymaking ventures.
