Many eyes means more bugs get found. But from working on an Open Source
project I can attest that it doesn't necessarily mean those bugs get
fixed right away. There are only so many people both interested in and
capable of creating fixes for a particular codebase at any given time.

Bzzzzt, wrong, wrong, wrong. As long as I'm paying attention to and
deal with the .rpmnew and .rpmsave files that get created, I have very
few issues with the Upgrade path using the installer. But then I'm not
using yum to upgrade the entire distribution in one fell swoop.

Those people a C-R-A-Z-Y.
