Hello All,
Thanks everyone for the great replies to my question.
After considering and looking at all the possibilities
I decided to go with Portbridge. The fact that they
have no setup fees, no minimum committment requirement
and no cancelation fees were big factors as was the
fact that they are a local, independent N.C. company.
I had used Time Warner and Verizon at various times
when I lived up north and had bad experiences with
both of them so I was reluctant to use them again. I
got a good deal from Portbridge too--29.99 a month for
what they call Family DSL Lite and it will be ready
for use in only on Wednesday (and I placed the order
late Monday morning). They say the dsl lite is about 7
or 8 times faster than dial-up and it's fine for what
I need right now plus they are going to help me set-up
my router after the service is up and running. All in
all I feel pretty confident in choosing them.
I did also get Mepis Linux installed today as well. I
used partition magic to reduce the size of the XP
partition and used the space for linux. Installation
was a breeze too and so I'm looking forward to
learning more about how to use linux to its full
potential and maybe one day get ride of the windows
partition altogether.
Thanks again for the help and if any of you are in the
Apex area stop in and see me at Pheasant Creek coffee
shop. I work there most nights during the week and
would be glad to meet you.
Peace,
Kevin
