Senior System Administrator
Required Skills
Administration of Linux and Solaris in an Enterprise environment
Design and administration of complex, multilayer, switched networks, both LAN and WAN
Ability to solve problems quickly and automate common tasks
Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing proposals and white papers, acting as a vendor liaison
A solid understanding of an operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems.
A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts.
Required Background
10 years of system administration experience
Primary responsibility for a high availability (99.99% or better) environment with an enforced Service Level Agreement
Desirable Background and Skills
A degree in computer science or a related field.
Expertise in programming for systems task automation in Perl, python or ruby
Familiarity with application programming
Load Balancing
Network backups
Appropriate Responsibilities
Design, implement and manage complex local and wide-area networks.
Manages a large, complex site or network.
Works under general direction from senior management.
Establishes/recommends policies on system use and services.
Provides technical lead and/or supervises system administrators, system programmers, or others of equivalent seniority.
