Topic:
IBM Middle Market
The Mid Market companies (those with between 100 and 1000
employees) represent the fasting growing segment regarding IT spending over the
next few years. IBM leveraging its Express Portfolio of products is
focused on winning in this fragmented market via its Business Partners.
>From a Software Group perspective this strategy means that key software vendors
(ISVs) must build their products on IBM middleware (DB2, Websphere) and systems
integrators must deploy solutions on IBM infrastructure (Websphere Portal,
DB2). Within our organization, we provide a key product for the ISV
community, Express Runtime, and a set of accelerators designed for integrators
known as Solutions Builder Express.
What is the "Mid Market"?
:
IBM is known for being a mainframe/high-end
consumer company. The lower-end home-PC consumer market
has been flooded already, and there is little room for
expansion. There are still a lot of customers who fall in the middle
of those two and require data services. Many companies already exist that
offer such services for that middle market ... but there is still a lot of
room for improvement and standardization. A trusted and respected name
such as IBM would offer a good solid investment into such needed data
services.

recruits all those wonderful NC State students that IBM employs. If

was present, he was there. Two of the other speakers are former
ACM/AITP officers. They should land us a good presentation as a result
:-).
