You have to do a couple things to get USB devices to be recognized in VirtualBox guests. First, make sure your VM is shutdown. Then go into its settings -> USB and check the box that says enable USB 2.0 (on OSX this is under Ports -> USB, so you may have to look around a bit as I don't actually have a linux machine to test this on). Then make sure that your device is plugged in, and then start your VM. Once your VM has booted, go to the bottom right corner of the VirtualBox window where there's the row of icons and right-click the USB Icon and select the device you want to use. It should then show up in your guest OS.

Hope this helps,

I finally got the virtual machine up an running(turns out the VT-x option was hidden under System Security in BIOS), but I having one last problem: VirtualBox is not detecting any of my USB connected devices(including the phone). I have already install the VirtualBox Extensions, so that is not the problem.
