Dare I suggest the Nook, Google Books, and Kindle apps? The irony of
reading Kindle books on a Nook is just a little too rich to pass on, no?
=p

* Swype (see http://beta.swype.com) is a terrific way to make soft
keyboards faster and more useful. A must-have on a smartphone that I
suspect you might find handy on a larger tablet platform too.

* Evernote is very handy for cross-platform note-taking.

* ASTRO File Manager is a good file manager for your Android device and
includes several add-on modules.

* Connectbot is useful for SSHing to your other machines. AndroidVNC
might be useful too if you use VNC. You may also want to check into SMB
File Sharing (the Astro File Manager also has an SMB module), WebSharing
File/Media Sync (move files to/from your Nook via HTTP).

* For personal finance (note: read privacy/security policies first and
decide your level of comfort), check out Mint, Google Finance, and/or
Wikinvest.

* Fring is a good IM/voice/video calling app and interoperates with
Google Talk, AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo!, and various SIP providers. Sipdroid
is also a good SIP calling capp if you have a SIP account. Use other IM
networks? You may also want to check into Meebo, IM+, or Palringo.

* For reading, music, and entertainment: Pandora, TED Mobile, USA Today,
YouTube, WUNC Radio, WRAL News, etc.

* JustPictures is a handy way to view photos that you have stored either
locally or in the cloud (e.g. on Picasa, Flikr, SmugMug, many more). It
also provides a live wallpaper that switches through your favorite
shots.

* For social networking, check out TweetDeck, Seesmic, and/or your
favorite social networking site's native apps (Facebook, etc). Skype
too.

* If you frequently need to access MS Office files, check out
DocumentsToGo. There's a free version which I believe allows viewing of
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. The
not-for-free-but-not-hugely-expensive version also provides PDF and
Google Docs support, zooming, charting, editing, etc. Whiteboard also
provides a basic drawing application so you don't have to waste napkins
when you have a brainstorm at the coffee shop.

* Just for fun, check out Google Earth, Qik, KnockingVideo.

* All that app installing got you hungry? Fire up UrbanSpoon and go
find a place to eat.

At Your Service,
