What distro?

If you're talking about the ability for USB keys to automatically attach
to the file system when plugged in, the automount daemon does not
actually handle this. Automount automatically mounts a drive when it is
accessed, not when media is inserted. It's usually largely unused on a
standard install.

If you ARE talking about using automount though, and I'm just babbling,
going root and typing:

# service autofs restart

Does it on Red Hat or similar distros (doesn't work on Ubuntu).
