Here are the minutes for last night’s meeting:
We had ten people attend the meeting: Baird, Adam, Heather,
Ed, Jason, Justin, smithj, and Chris. We also had two first timers: Matt
and David.
Ed gave an hour and fifteen minute presentation on
VIM. He covered VIM’s capabilities such as: syntax highlighting,
macros, ergonomic movement, marks, editing multiple files at once, recording
keystrokes, auto indentation, and file comparison (vimdiff).
Justin gave a fifty minute presentation on Emacs. He
covered Emacs’: IRC client, extensibility with lisp, web browser, syntax
highlighting, spell checker, ability to do absolutely anything, planner, XHTML
validation.
For those of you keeping score, that’s 8 highlights
for both VIM and Emacs. However, at the end of the meeting Ed tipped the
scales by displaying VIM’s ASCII art Star Wars movie.
Because the presentations were so informative, the meeting
lasted longer than Bali Hai was open. So instead we finished off the
night at Shanghai Express.
