Student Groups

There are many Student Groups Similar to the LUG at NC State.


STARS is a service-learning student group focusing on broadening participation in computer science by reaching out to traditionally underrepresented groups. Students who participate in this group take part in a number of initiatives, including tutoring, mentoring, outreach, and even participating in research projects with NC State Graduate Students.


The ACM/AITP is a student chapter of the professional organizations, and focuses on bringing in speakers from industry to give Tech Talks for the NC State Computer Science Department.


Women in Computer Science is a student group that advocates the inclusion and accomplishments in women in computing technology. Focusing primarily on bringing in speakers to talk about research and corporate careers, WiCS also hosts a number of social events throughout the semester. WiCS events are open to everyone, regardless of gender.

Open Hardware Makerspace

The Open Hardware Makerspace is a student group built with the focus of bringing a hackerspace to NC State students. OHM is primarily interested in the hardware side of engineering, but students interested in microcontrollers or robotics would feel right at home with them.
