A hack day is an 8- to 10-hour-long session where everyone in the LUG brings whatever they're currently working on and gets together in one place to work on it together. Whether we're working on personal projects or school assignments, working on them in a social atmosphere where we can get the feedback of our peers makes it easier and more fun.
Of course, we do get distracted on occasion. Anything can happen during a hack day: we may break out into a spontaneous discussion about distributed social networking technologies or we may just take a break and play some Minecraft or Teeworlds. Part of what makes the hack day a fun is the unpredictable experiences and amazing ideas that come out of them - even if the work doesn't get done, it's still fun!
The LUG generally tries to schedule two hack days during the Spring and Fall semesters and one in the summer. Hack days are open to the public, and visitors are encouraged to bring snack foods or a little bit of cash to help chip in for dinner. Bringing an extra power strip is also a good idea, as the power outlets get filled up pretty quickly!
